Reinventing HPC

HPC COMMUNITY GEARS UP FOR ISC 2016 – RECORD NUMBER OF ATTENDEES EXPECTED

FRANKFURT, Germany, June 8 – In less than 11 days, HPC enthusiasts will be converging on the city of Frankfurt to attend the annual ISC High Performance conference, which is set to bring together people from over 46 countries. Thanks to its global reach, ISC 2016 will be the most significant HPC forum so far this year.

The event promises to be well-attended as current registration numbers point toward a record number of attendees. Attendance is up by more than eight percent compared to last year at this time. There are especially large contingents from Germany, the US, UK, China, Japan and France. If the current trend continues, the conference will make history with an attendance of over 3,000 participants.

The ISC High Performance conference will be held from June 19 to 23, offering a variety of programs and activities that cater to individual needs and preference. The accompanying exhibition will display product demonstrations and research projects from 147 key vendors, research centers and universities in the HPC space.

Program Highlights

The organizers would like to draw the attendees’ attention to some particularly engaging sessions that will enrich their experience at this year’s event.

The Opening Session

The 31st ISC conference will be officially opened at 8:30 am on Monday, June 20, by conference general co-chairs, Martin Meuer and Thomas Meuer, followed by the announcement of the PRACE ISC and GAUSS Award winners. The actual awarding will take place in the afternoon, during the research paper session.

The new TOP500 list in its 47th edition will be announced during the opening ceremony, followed by the awarding of top system vendors and users. Project co-founder Erich Strohmaier will offer a presentation focusing on the highlights of the latest list.

The highlight of the first day will be the opening keynote delivered by Dr. Andrew Ng, chief scientist at Baidu. In his talk, titled “How HPC is Supercharging Machine Learning,” Ng will discuss how “AI is transforming the entire world of technology and much of this progress is due to the ability of learning algorithms to spot patterns in larger and larger amounts of data.” This talk will describe “the latest trends in AI in greater detail, and share how HPC researchers now and in the future will drive significant progress in AI.”

Here is a list of some of the other not-to-be-missed highlights:

  1. Tuesday and Wednesday Keynotes
  2. Distinguished Speaker Series
  3. Industry Track
  4. The 2016 Exhibition
  5. Welcome Party

Still Time Left to Register

Finally, if you haven’t done so yet, there is still time to register and save 200 Euros off the full conference pass. The conference offers a very interesting five-day program, kicking off with a day of tutorials, followed by three days of the main program, and ending with a full-day of workshops.

The ISC Attendee Guide

The ISC Communications Team has put together an easy-to-browse guide, offering attendees quick reference to useful information, such as directions to the conference center and where and when to pick up their badges.
